About this deal

The hydration drink mix is available in either lemon or raspberry flavour and comes in a powder that you mix with water. It contains an A-list of organic ingredients, including raw cane sugar, glucose, coconut water powder, pink Himalayan sea salt and natural flavourings. Thankfully not, but unfortunately, there's no free and easy way to find a gel that you think tastes nice, so to get this dialled you'll probably have to play with a bit of trial and error.

The Rawvelo Organic Hydration Mix is made with all-natural ingredients, tastes great, and is easy to drink all-day long. It's no slouch in the nutritional department either, provided you're looking for a drink that's designed to hydrate you, rather than offer loads of ride fuel. It's not too expensive per serving, but there are slightly cheaper options out there. Dextrose (which is another word for glucose) or maltodextrin (a chain of dextrose molecules which is easier on the stomach). In this guide, I have made a note of each product's taste where relevant, but I appreciate that what I think tastes nice is pretty unhelpful, since everyone's different. Therefore, I've instead made a point to mention the strength of taste; something with a strong taste will likely be more polarising (and therefore risky) than something with a neutral taste. Are energy gels expensive? Just to make you feel even better ... a slice of bread is generally 0.3-0.5g of salt per slice and bacon around 2.5-2.8g per two rashers, so two bidons and a bacon sandwich at the cafe stop will pretty much get you to the limit. We're quite firm believers in hemp being a very, very good source of vegan protein but undoubtably it will be a blend. Pea protein is also one we think works well. ...With pea protein and even more so hemp protein, it's about getting the balance and masking right because they do have quite strong flavours.” Vegan, organic boom The majority of pre-mix endurance drinks on the market promoted energy and hydration in combination, he said, but Rawvelo believes and has collated evidence to suggest these two functions are best separated. “The main reason is the body can't absorb all the electrolytes if there's too much carbohydrate. ...You need a balance of the two.” Hemp and pea protein R&D Finishing second in just your first attempt at the TCR is pretty impressive! What were the main learnings you took from that experience? The foundation of our hydration mixes, meanwhile, is coconut water. Bursting with electrolytes and thought to help the human body replace fluids faster than water, there’s no wonder it’s been dubbed Mother Nature’s sports drink. With all of our products, it’s about balancing short-term performance and recovery with long-term health.

Fuelling for epic rides — how to get the right food to keep your energy levels up and avoid the dreaded bonk For many of the best energy gels, the brand recommends that you chase it down with water to help speed up the digestion process. Meanwhile, other gels are made specifically with low viscosity or isotonic osmolality so this isn't needed. Ultimately, the answer to this comes down to preference. You don't need to consume water with any energy gels, but since they are of varying consistencies, you might find it helps. What are the negatives of energy gels? The BHF recommends no more than 6mg a salt and 2500mg sodium each day, so you're probably ok to have a couple of servings in a ride, especially given you're losing salts from your body when you sweat a lot. This 16th October will see the inaugural Tanfield Tour of Yorkshire take to the roads of the county, created by the highly talented Tanfield brothers, both professional riders as well as former national and world champions in their own rights. The sportive sees 150 riders take on either 47, 115, or 147 km routes, each with Rawvelo feed stations to keep everyone energised and hydrated throughout the day.Ha, yes - at the time I was actually getting pretty annoyed that so many people were hassling me when all I wanted to do was have a shower and go to bed!
