About this deal

You won’t know who to trust in this twisty, absorbing and intricately-plotted family thriller.” —T.M. Logan, author of The Holiday on The Lies We Tell A powerful portrait of the family ties that can both nurture and damage us. A compulsive read.” Gilly MacMillan The historical fiction section of this story was wonderful, it showed what life was like at home for those left behind, missing loved ones who had gone to fight and hearing news of deaths from bombings and the trauma that this leaves. I am not sure which section I loved the most as the historical setting was as compelling as the present-day setting. The same amount of danger and dread but with a series of different events.

I've enjoyed some of Jane Corry's previous books, but unfortunately, despite some strong points, this one didn't really hit the spot for me.

Nancy's mother and stepfather have been brutally killed. After a trial that gripped the nation, her stepbrother has been convicted of the double murder. But the end of the trial is just the beginning of a new nightmare for Nancy: the press is rabid, certain that she is hiding something. Certain that she knows more that she's telling about that night at the farmhouse . . . Elizabeth’s son has just signed up for the army and Elizabeth takes in two evacuated children. Elizabeth and her friend join a secret army in the aim of contributing to the war effort.

I have been thoroughly immersed in this wonderful and engaging novel…full of unexpected twists I didn’t see coming!” Luana Lewis, author of DON’T STAND SO CLOSEComing to Find You is yet another twisty, exciting book that I couldn't put down." —Heidi Perks, author of The Whispers Nancy’s story kept my heart in my mouth—right up to the chilling denouement.” —Nikki Smith, author of The Beach Party Elizabeth, on the other hand, immediately came across as a warm and loving character. Even with a decidedly unlikable husband in the neighbourhood, she is merely trying to make the best of a horrible time in her life. That means taking in guests, even evacuees like Maisie and Shirley. But danger lurks along this part of the Essex coast. Can Elizabeth keep everyone safe until the end of the war? I would have quite happily read an entire novel about Elizabeth and her guests. There were a few characters I would have loved to have got to know better, and that includes a character called Adeline, who also happens to tie in nicely to the present. Tall Chimneys has a history all of its own and we also follow Elizabeth in this story, who owned the house during World War II. Elizabeth and Nancy have a lot in common and I took to them both so well, I know they will both stay with me for a long time to come. Nancy needs to escape after her stepbrother is sent to prison for the murder of their parents. She decides to go and stay at Tall Chimneys, a house in Sidmouth that belonged to her Grandmother and that she has now inherited from her Mother. Nancy is hoping to start afresh where nobody knows her or her secrets, but things have a way of catching up with you!
